Specimen Collection & Shipping

Step 1
A VDxITM Shipper Kit (Item # 07-8571028) is required when sending CardioCareTM specimens to Veterinary Diagnostics Institute (VDxITM) laboratory for analysis.

Step 2
One (1) voucher kit is required for each CardioCareTM specimen sent to VDxITM. The voucher kit contains a VDxITM Reference Lab Services Voucher which serves as the test requisition form for the specimen being submitted.

  • Account Information (i.e., Account Name, Telephone No., Fax No, and Requesting Veterinarian.)
  • Patient Information (i.e., Patient Name, Species, Breed, Age, Sex, Specimen Type, and Date Draw

  • Step 3
    Open the VDxITM Voucher Kit bag and remove the voucher and specimen transport tube, leaving the absorbent pad in the bag. Fill in the information on the voucher form – one voucher form for each specimen submitted.

    Step 4
    Place at least 0.25 mL (equivalent to the level marked by the outer ledge of vial) of EDTA plasma that has been separated from collection tube within 1 hour of drawing into the specimen transport tube, and screw cap until it is securely tightened.

    Step 5
    Write the name of the dog or cat onto the pre-affixed (barcoded) label on the specimen transport tube, using a pen or fine-point permanent marker. Immediately place the specimen in the freezer, even if the specimen is to be shipped the same day. Maintain the frozen state of the specimen until you are ready to complete steps 4 through 10 (below).

    Step 6
    Call VDxI at 949-273-8378 prior to 2:00PM your local time. VDxI will schedule the FedEx pick-up.

    Step 7
    Place the FROZEN specimen transport tube(s) into the Voucher Kit bag containing the absorbent pad, and re-seal the bag. Up to ten (10) tubes may be placed in a single bag.

    Step 8
    Place the sealed Voucher Kit bag containing the specimen(s) into the styrofoam container.

    Step 9
    PLACE 2 (TWO) frozen refrigerants (cold-packs) into the styrofoam container with specimens (very important!).

    Step 10
    Relocate the styrofoam container lid into position.

    Step 11
    Place the completed VDxI Reference Lab Services Voucher(s) on top of the styrofoam lid, and close the yellow shipper box.

    Step 12
    Place the closed yellow shipper box into the FedEx Clinical Pak (plastic envelop) with the FedEx Standard Overnight Airbill affixed to it, and seal it.

    Important: Specimens can only be picked up for shipment to Veterinary Diagnostics Institute on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. If they are not to be shipped the date of draw, maintain the specimen in a frozen state until time of shipment. Specimens should not be shipped to VDxI from one day "prior to" and including the "day of" holidays.
